原版在《Off The Wall》专辑取得巨大成功以后，这只Michael Jackson新专辑<Thriller>的首发单曲是众所期盼的。它于1982年10月（美国11月初）在英国发行。这首与Paul McCartney合唱的单曲似乎平淡无奇，但它还是一首大热之作。它在美国登上了亚军宝座，在英国榜上则到达了第8名swf to mpeg。
它在美国卖出了超过一百万张，并获得了白金唱片认证，同时它在专辑榜前100名内呆了18个星期。在R&B榜上它的表现更好，其夺得了冠军宝座并蝉联了3周。在全球范围内，这只单曲的表现不那么理想。它在很多国家都没有打进前10名。
swf to mov数字单曲将于2008年1月14日发行。拥有以上曲目的CD单曲将于1月28日发行。另外一张拥有三支曲目的12英寸黑胶单曲也在计划之中，但最终曲目如何还没有确定。
单曲碟里收录的从未发行的《The Girl Is Mine》原始小样是在上世纪80年代初录制的，Michael一人演唱了两个角色（他的和后来Paul McCartney的）。

原始版本里的Paul McCartney被略掉了。这首曲目里找不到他。新的《The Girl is Mine》里，是Will来扮演“那个男人”。在结尾处，并没有原始《The Girl is Mine》的那段争风吃醋式的吵嘴对白（MJ和Paul McCartney），而是以一段说唱作为“回归”。这个版本比原始版本更加“合作”，因为原始版本里，我们只听到Michael和Paul在为一个女孩 子吵来吵去，但在这个版本里，Will的那部分，仿佛融合在Michael的声音里，powerpoint to dvd 反之亦然。
总的来说，这是一首优秀的曲目，你会忍不住跟着节奏点头。硬性的节奏和疯克的声效，配合着Michael惊人的嗓音和Will独特的说唱风格，毫无疑问将把这首歌推向俱乐部排行榜的榜首！
